Barrio La Boca, Argentina
This gallery is displaying Barrio La Boca in Buenos Aires, Argentina. These images are explosive in color, intimate in outlook, but with open space. They capture the warm personality and feeling of the barrio, and like its people, are vibrant, friendly and happy.
La Boca is the most colorful district in Buenos Aires. It was settled and built up by Italian immigrants along the Riachuelo, a waterway lined with meat-packing plants and warehouses. It has brightly painted houses and corrugated roofs along the pedestrian walkway called "El Caminito".
Today the barrio is populated by low to middleclass working people who still live within the two-block area of tightly knit, metal ridged and stone buildings. Each edifice is painted in shockingly bright reds, blues, greens and yellows with stone reliefs and sculptures on brick walls depicting famous indigenous people and religious imageries.
